Information We Collect
Information You Provide
Account information: email address, username, display name, and optional profile bio when you create an account
Profile photo: if you choose to upload an avatar
Authentication data: if you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email from those providers (we do not receive or store your Apple/Google password)
User-generated content: reactions (significance ratings, sentiments, takes), predictions, lists, and feedback you submit
Communications: messages you send to us via email at witnsdapp@gmail.com
Information Collected Automatically
Usage Analytics: We use PostHog to track how you interact with the app, including screens viewed, features used, and engagement patterns. We track events such as reactions submitted, searches performed, and feed interactions. We do not track keystroke-level input.
Device Information: device type, operating system version, and app version
Crash Reports: We use Sentry to collect crash logs and performance data to diagnose and fix bugs. These may include device state, stack traces, and app version.
Push Notification Settings: If you enable push notifications, we store your device's push token to deliver notifications.

Contacts or address book
Health, financial, biometric data
We do not use advertising identifiers or track you across other apps.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
1. Provide the service: display your reactions, predictions, and profile to other users; deliver push notifications; compute streaks and badges
2. Improve the product: analyze aggregated usage patterns to understand which features are valuable and where users encounter issues
3. Communicate with you: send service-related notifications (e.g., new events, friend activity, morning digests) based on your notification preferences
4. Ensure security: detect abuse, enforce our Terms of Service, and maintain the integrity of the platform
We do not use your data for targeted advertising. We do not sell your data.
Third Party Services
Supabase: Authentication, database, file storage, Account data, content, push tokens
PostHog: Product analytics, Anonymized usage events, user properties (username, reaction count, streak)
Sentry:Error tracking and crash reporting, Crash logs, device info, app version
Apple Sign-In: Authentication, Email, name (provided by Apple)
Google Sign-In: Authentication, Email, name, profile photo (provided by Google)
Expo / EAS: App builds and push notifications, Push tokens, device info
AI Processing
We use AI (OpenAI GPT-4.1 mini) on the server side to curate and categorize world events for the platform. This processing operates on publicly available news content , your personal data, reactions, and takes are never sent to AI models. AI is not used to profile users or make decisions about individual accounts.
These providers process data on our behalf under their respective privacy policies. We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
We may also disclose your information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Witnsd or others.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on Supabase's infrastructure (powered by AWS). We use industry-standard security measures, including:
- Row-Level Security (RLS) on all database tables
- Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit
- Secure token-based authentication
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention
Account data: retained as long as your account is active
User content:(reactions, predictions, takes): retained as long as your account is active
Analytics data: PostHog retains event data according to their data retention policy
Crash reports: Sentry retains crash data for 90 days
When you delete your account, we delete your profile, reactions, predictions, follows, and associated data from our database within 30 days. Some anonymized, aggregated data (e.g., event statistics) may persist as it is no longer linked to your identity.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Export your data: request an export of your reactions, predictions, and profile data in a machine-readable format
- Correct your data: update your profile information at any time through the app
- Delete your account: permanently delete your account and associated data from Settings within the app. Deletion is completed within 30 days.
- Manage notifications: customize or disable push notifications from the Notification Settings screen
- Opt out of analytics: contact us to request exclusion from PostHog tracking
For users in the European Economic Area (GDPR):
If you are in the EU/EEA, you additionally have the right to:
- Data portability: request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Restrict processing: request that we limit how we use your data
- Object to processing: object to our processing of your data for certain purposes
- Lodge a complaint: file a complaint with your local data protection authority

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how it is used
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights
We do not sell personal information as defined by the CCPA.
Children's Privacy
Witnsd is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at witnsdapp@gmail.com.
Push Notifications
We send push notifications for:
- New events and trending content
- Social activity (new followers, likes on your takes, friend reactions)
- Morning digest summaries
You can customize notification types and frequency in **Settings > Notification Preferences within the app, or disable them entirely through your device settings.
Local Storage
Witnsd uses on-device storage (AsyncStorage) to save your preferences, authentication session, and theme settings. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers beyond what is necessary for authentication.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you through the app.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
